Apple has christened the external battery pack designed to power its futuristic Vision Pro headset as the “Magic Battery”, as indicated by code references discovered in tvOS beta 5. Once known as the “MagSafe Battery Pack” due to its resemblance to the iPhone’s battery pack, the Magic Battery promises to extend the headset’s battery life by two hours. The discovery was made by independent Apple code sleuth, aaronp613.
The Vision Pro headset connects to the Magic Battery via a single woven braided cable on the left side. Users have the flexibility of plugging into a stationary power source or utilizing the Magic Battery when on the move. Engineered to fit conveniently into a pocket, the battery can be replaced to ensure continued power supply. However, each headset comes with only one battery, so users will need to purchase additional battery packs to maintain power when away from a power outlet.
The Vision Pro has encountered criticism due to its need for a separate battery pack, designed to be worn around the waist. While most AR/VR headsets come with an integrated battery, Apple’s testing revealed that incorporating a battery would add significant weight to the Vision Pro, making it uncomfortable to wear.
The Vision Pro, priced at $3,499 and set to hit the market in early 2024, boasts an unparalleled range of high-end features. These include two high-resolution 4K micro-OLED displays, twelve cameras and five sensors for tracking hand movements and mapping the surrounding environment, dual Apple silicon processors, among others.
Within the Apple user community, opinions vary on the term “Magic” being applied to Apple products. Some users argue that the term has lost its charm, while others see it as an attempt to inject some novelty into technology that hasn’t significantly advanced in years. At the same time, images of the alleged iPhone 15 USB-C Connector parts have been leaked online, further intensifying the rumor that Apple may be transitioning from Lightning to USB-C charging standards in the coming year.
Other rumors suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro models will potentially offer a 2TB storage option. Additionally, Apple continues to test and refine iOS 17 beta 5, with various updates and hidden Easter eggs found in macOS. Apple is also reportedly testing the M3 Max chip for future MacBook Pro models. All these developments hint at exciting times ahead for Apple enthusiasts.
