In recent days, the developer of the virtual machine project UTM has shared a video on X (former Twitter), demonstrating the successful launch of a Windows XP virtual machine within the official VisionOS simulator. This development implies that it is now possible to use WinXP or subsequent Windows operating systems within Vision Pro.

However, according to the developer, while they have successfully run WinXP within VisionOS, they have yet to implement support for input devices. This means that currently, after launching WinXP within VisionOS, users are unable to interact with it in any way. This functionality is set to be supported in the future development of UTM.

UTM is a virtual machine software that is compatible with iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. It enables users to run systems like Windows and Linux on their iPhones, iPads, and Macs. In fact, users can even run macOS within macOS through UTM.

The success of this test on VisionOS is due to the fact that the system’s foundation is iPadOS, making the porting process relatively simple.
